The Writing Process Reimagined: “Called by Name” marks a departure from my traditional songwriting process, a practice I’ve refined over the last fifty years. In the past, my approach varied but usually was write lyrics and then the music, recording was a solitary affair in my Pro Tools home studio, playing all the parts despite challenges like partial deafness and limited proficiency in certain instruments, vocals included. These personal recordings served as a litmus test for my band and collaborators; if the song resonated, it evolved into a richer, collective rendition.
Embracing the Modern Era: This time, I chose a different path. To ensure the song’s essence wasn’t overshadowed by my instrumental limitations, I turned to the talents of studio musicians provided by Suno.ai. Their contributions were seamlessly integrated into my Pro Tools and Magix workflow for audio and video production, respectively.
This version is a songwriter’s draft, a stepping stone toward a final piece that will eventually showcase the full breadth of talent and creativity of my team.
